+PUT DOWN THAT CAN! The dangers of A/C recharge kits
The air conditioning system in vehicles require professional precision tools to safely recharge and restore cool air flow to a vehicle. There are several problems often associated with the use of home A/C recharge kits that every car owner should know of:
Moisture contamination
When moisture is present in the air conditioning system, it may combine with the refrigerant gas to form an acidic solution. This solution can corrode and compromise the internal compressor as well as other various A/C system components. As a direct result of this occurrence, premature failure is inevitable. The only way to remedy this is by removing moisture from the system via a vacuum that is only available by use of professional grade industrial air conditioning service machines.
Blended gasses
Many DIY products are mixed with sealant solutions, marketed to the public claiming to seal leaks from the inside out. The problem with these products is that the components of the A/C system are susceptible to being clogged due to the use of these unregulated sealants. Although they may initially offer an economical alternative, these temporary solutions can in fact potentially cause thousands of dollars in repairs and replacement parts down the road.
Over filling
Several recharge kits come with simple hoses and pressure gauges. These are often not accurate and overfilling the a/c system with Freon can commonly occur. This will result in either both poor cooling and performance, or it can possibly damage system components not meant for an extreme degree of high pressure.
Freon is a hazardous gas
Accidental exposure to R134a Freon refrigerant gas is known to be detrimental to health.
Saving a few dollars may be tempting, but the risk of damaging your vehicle and hazard to your health just isn't worth it. Here at Lo-Cost Auto Electric, let us professionally service your vehicle's air conditioning system.
